Washcloths for Charity

I love giving back and there isn’t any simpler way to do that then to crochet a simple washcloth. But sometimes you REALLY want to make something that looks over the top without getting too complicated.

These washcloths will fit that bill!

Top Side Washcloth

Materials Needed:

• Size H (5.00mm) crochet hook
• Cotton yarn in any color
• Tapestry needle
• Measuring tape

Gauge: 1″= 5 hdc

Finished washcloth measures approximately 8″

Terms and stitches used:

• blp = back loop
• ch = chain
• flp = front loop
• hdc = half double crochet
• sk = skip
• st/sts = stitch/stitches

Ch 36

Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook (skipped chains count as hdc), hdc in each ch across, turn.

Row 2: ch 2 (counts as hdc), *hdc in blp of next hdc, hdc in flp of next hdc; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, hdc in blp of next hdc, hdc in top of ch 2, turn.

Repeat row 2 until your washcloth measures 8″ in length. Finish off and weave in all tails.

Spike’s Little Cousin Washcloth

Materials Needed:

• Size H (5.00mm) crochet hook
• Cotton yarn in any color
• Tapestry needle
• Measuring tape

Gauge: 1″= 4 dc; 1″ = 3 rows

Finished washcloth measures approximately 8″

Terms and stitches used:

• ch/chs = chain/chains
• dc = double crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• sk = skip
• sp = space
• st/sts = stitch/stitches

ch 34

Row 1: dc in the 4th ch from hook (skipped chains count as dc), dc in next ch, *ch 2, sk next 2 chs, dc in next 2 chs; repeat from * across to last ch, dc in last ch, turn.

Row 2: ch 4 (counts as hdc, ch 2), *sk next 2 dc, dc in next 2 chs on foundation ch (be sure you are working over your ch 2 sp), ch 2; rep from * across, hdc in the top of the ch 2, turn.

Row 3: ch 2 (counts as hdc), *dc in next 2 dc–2 rows below (be sure you are working over your ch 2 sp), ch 2, sk next 2 dc; repeat from * across, dc in next 2 dc–2 rows below, hdc in top of ch 2, turn.

Row 4: ch 4 (counts as hdc, ch 2), * sk next 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc–2 rows below (be sure you are working over your ch 2 sp), ch 2; repeat from * across, hdc in top of ch 2, turn.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until your washcloth measures 8″ ending with a row 3.

For last row: ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in next two dc, *dc in next 2 dc–2 rows below (be sure you are working over your ch 2 sp), hdc in next two dc; repeat from * across, hdc in top of ch 2, finish off and weave in all tails.

Don’t forget to GIVE BACK once you’ve made a couple of these awesome washcloths!
