The latest trend in crochet baby footwear for hot summer temps is barefoot sandals–and I can see why! They are super simple to make (no soles make for WAY less work) and they are always ADORABLE!
Infant Barefoot Sandals
Materials Needed:
- Size E or F hook
- Sport or baby weight yarn
- Tapestry needle
Note: You can make these larger by sizing up both your hook and your yarn weight.
Terms Used:
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sts = stitches
- sk = skip
Ch 8. Sl st in 1st ch to form a ring. This will be the loop that goes around the toe.
Row 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc now and throughout), dc twice into ring. This forms the base of the triangle.
Row 2: Ch 2 and turn, dc in each stitch across.
Row 3: Ch 2 and turn, dc in next dc, dc twice in next, dc in each of last two sts.
Row 4: Ch 2 and turn, dc in first dc, ch 2, sk next dc and sc in next dc.
Row 5: Ch 2, sk next dc, dc in last two dc of row.
Edging: Ch 1, sc down side of triangle towards ring. 10 sc into the ring. Cont. to sc up the other side of triangle. Once you reach end of this side, ch approximately 30 and finish off (Mine measured 4 inches long when I was done), leaving a 4 inch tail.
Join yarn with a sl st into the other end of the triangle. Ch approximately 30 stitches. Finish off, leaving a 4 inch tail.
You should now have two tails. In order to make the heel, thread your tapestry needle with one tail and crisscross it to the opposite side (see photo below for reference), Attach the tail to the opposite side of the triangle. Tie with a knot and weave in. Complete for the other side.
All that’s left is the decoration, You can stick anything on top–flowers are my personal favorites but you can do pom poms, ribbon, jewels for that bling factor!!
