Basic Baby Shoes

https://hodgepodgecrochet.wordpress.com: Basic Baby Shoes

The basic baby shoe was born because I was tired of counting stitches in other patterns and getting two very different shoes every time (or sometimes not even being able to finish a second shoe to make a pair!). I developed a simpler way to make shoes that turn out the same–every single time. They also are perfect for using up scraps and work up fast!

Anyone who has tried (and failed) to make two identical baby shoes will appreciate the simple, no fuss design of this very simple and basic pattern!

The finished project is approximately 3.5″ – 4″ inches from heel to toe. Playing with the hook size will give you a little more wiggle room if you need them larger.

I’m having issues with the heel slipping under on my slippers any ideas to make them stay up where they should? I combined your shoes/ slippers with the loopy boot pattern to Play with different sizes

You can try sewing some elastic around the opening or weaving some ribbon or cord through the stitches to create a drawstring tie.

What a great idea this is. I have just returned to crocheting (after years of not doing that) & had to sharpen my skills. I love your beautiful manner of showing how to crochet these baby shoes. I just found the Baby Boots Booties pattern (on the net) &worked out that pattern for a friends baby girl. (Boot in pink & white.) I’d crocheted boots from that same pattern, 50+ years ago for a little baby boy who is nearly a Sr. Citizen now. My pattern was long gone, but I found the same pattern on the net. Now to crochet boots & shoes for the newest little ones. What fun.

Thank you so much for this brilliant idea! My only problem with crocheting booties or shoes is that they don’t stay flat. One side always twists into the other like they are off kilter. Do you have any suggestions? Is it because I crochet too tightly? Again, thanks so much! You’re a peach!

I want to make these for my toddler that wears a size 5/6. Do you have any advise on how to make bigger sizes? These are just to cute and she would love them being the little diva she is!

Changing your hook size or yarn would get you a larger shoe 🙂 I would measure her foot and then start increasing the hook until you get something that will work.

These will fit infants. Depending on how tightly you crochet, they should fit a 0-6 month range.

How do you get the back higher? (the heel)

    Like

    • Marissa January 29, 2012 at 9:41 am Reply

If you wanted to get the back of the shoe higher you could crochet another three rounds along with the strap.

Attach your yarn in the same place as where you want your strap to go (approximately 5 or 6 stitches back from the center of the toe top).
Chain 1, sc around the heel until you get to the same stitch on the opposite side of the shoe.
Chain an appropriate amount to make a strap. (Remember, you will crochet on a loop for the button later.)
Sc in the second chain from the hook and all the way back around the heel to the opposite side of the shoe. Stop when you get to the place where you joined. Ch 1 and turn.
Sc all the way back across the heel and up your strap. When you come to the end of the strap, chain enough to make the button loop and then slip stitch and finish off.
Weave in your ends and there you have it–a shoe with a higher back!
